RELIEFS • Figures of Cross
Over the years the series Baum-Kreuze I-VIII evolved into different shapes of crosses created with different materials.
These works link archaic tree symbols such as the Tree of Life or the Cosmic Tree with the Christian symbolism of salvation as it is represented by the form of the cross.
Both symbols – the tree as well as the cross – have similar origins. In times preceding christianity they embodied the link between heaven and earth and the cycle of life and death.
